Sandra Verduzco will receive a Bachelor of Science in Criminology with an option in corrections. She transferred from Fresno City College and chose this field because she wants to help the incarcerated population improve themselves and become productive members of society. 

Verduzco shared her academic experience at Fresno State in a Q&A

What is your career goal? 

My goal is to work as a counselor inside a prison.

When did you decide this was what you wanted to do? 

After volunteering at a prison I found out this is what I wanted to do.

What do you think about the College of Social Sciences (COSS) and our professors?

The professors at Fresno State have a great deal of experience and knowledge.  They helped me prepare every step of the way for my career.

I will never forget my first day, feeling overwhelmed and very excited to be attending Fresno State.

How do you feel about being recognized as an outstanding student?

 I feel honored and very thankful for this recognition.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

Working as a counselor inside a prison.

What is your advice for other students? 

No matter what others might say to you, do not give up on your dreams.
